The registration for this year’s Race Around Lower Austria on May 10/11, 2024 is closed. 152 adventurous cyclists will embark on their great adventure once again at the 6th edition of the popular ultracycling event starting from Weitra. 600 kilometers with 6000 breathtaking meters of elevation gain through the diverse landscape of Lower Austria await the participants! In addition to a new category, the Austrian Championships, and a new hotspot along the route, there will also be many familiar elements.
Who is the fastest Austrian?
After 2020, the fastest cyclists in Austria on the ultradistance will once again be sought at the Race Around Lower Austria (RAN). A strong field of participants including Lower Austrian Phillip Kaider has announced their participation. “If nothing unexpected happens, I should be in good form. If I manage to register for the Austrian Championships (Note: a license from the Austrian Cycling Federation is required), then I want to aim for the top 3 – preferably, of course, first place,” says last year’s winner humbly, recalling his mishap in 2020 where he finished RAN as second but had forgotten to obtain a license. Competing for the title against the “fastest nurse in Austria” includes four-time Long Distance Triathlon National Champion Andreas Fuchs among others. Kaider and Fuchs will have to battle it out for the overall victory against German Sebastian Mayr and Lee Williams from Great Britain. So, excitement is guaranteed.
With a 24-hour livestream, the best images will be delivered to everyone’s living room who cannot make it to Weitra. Of course, there will also be the tracking platform where all participants can be “tracked”. While participants were previously accompanied by their support crews at all five editions, this year there will be a new competition and a new ranking with the “2-person team unsupported category”. Nine couples will attempt to circumnavigate Lower Austria without any assistance. A “depot” at the new hotspot at KM 436 in St. Aegyd am Neuwalde allows them to deposit provisions or fresh clothing, for example. All participants will receive a warm welcome at the new hotspot. Live reporting will also be broadcasted from there again. But spectators can also expect plenty in Weitra: Open garden restaurants, open shops, a car-free city, food trucks, a chill area and much more will be available at the start and finish location!
